Title: Science Writer Around here, we define the future. We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely. KBR is seeking a Science Writer to provide science writing support to the NASA Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO). The work will be performed at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and NASA Headquarters, and will include some travel. The position requires a self-motivated individual who can suggest technology and science topics to write about based on ESTO projects, pursue data independently, and look for multiple avenues to publish the information beyond the program website and news feeds. It is also necessary that a candidate be comfortable working across multiple publishing domains such as digital (web, twitter, etc.), print, video, and conferences. Responsibilities: – Research and development of articles, blogs, tweets, web content, presentations, brochures, and other materials for a broad range of audiences – Conducting interviews with scientists and technologists in government, industry, and academia – Development of comprehensive and accurate literature describing a broad range of Earth science topics and technologies – Distillation of information from a variety of sources including oral and written forms – Establishing a network of publication contacts within and outside NASA – Work within the ESTO Communications team and participation in planning and scheduling of communications requirements – Travel includes meetings, conferences, and project reviews Required Education, Experience, & Skills: – Bachelor’s degree preferably in a discipline applicable to Earth science or engineering – 5 years of experience in writing articles and producing presentations for technical and general audiences – In lieu of formal education, 16 years of direct work experience – Excellent oral and written communications skills and ability to work within a group and independently – Ability to explain complex science topics to a wide variety of audiences – Citizenship requirements to access government facilities and systems – Position requires telework currently and will transition to in-office (Greenbelt, MD) work in the future Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 KBR is an equal opportunity employer.
