Summary Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to join the Protein Engineering group in the Discovery Biotherapeutics Department in San Diego. The successful candidate will support BMSs protein engineering efforts through antibody/protein design, production, and biophysical analysis. Experience with antibody/protein engineering, purification, and characterization is preferred. Experience with protein modeling, bioinformatics, and machine learning would be highly valued. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in cross-functional project teams to discover and optimize antibody-based therapeutics. The ideal candidate will have a track record of taking initiative and will be able to thrive in a highly dynamic and supportive yet independently thinking culture. The candidate should be highly effective and lead from the bench. Excellent time management, a collaborative spirit, organizational skills, and strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: – Antibody/protein engineering and modeling – Purification of antibody and protein-based biologics – Functional assays including SPR, ELISA, and FACS – Data presentations and updates in the project team meetings – Providing technical solutions to anticipated problems Skills/Knowledge preferred: – PhD in protein sciences, biochemistry, or related fields, with 3 or more years of research experience in antibody/protein discovery – Antibody/protein engineering, construct design, and production – Antibody/protein interaction assay development by SPR, ITC, or immunoprecipitation – Familiarity with biophysical techniques, such as x-ray crystallography, isothermal calorimetry, or multi-angle light scattering – Design, plan and execute scientific experiments with minimal supervision – General assay development for hit-to-lead identification and characterization – Ability to organize data into power point slides for presentations at project/departmental meetings – Excellent notebook keeping, and familiarity with data retrieval and input from a database – Excellent troubleshooting abilities Skills/Knowledge in one or more of the following areas are a plus: – Physics-based antibody/protein modeling – Bioinformatic database analysis – Machine learning – Experience with protein display technologies Functional/Scientific/Technical Skills: – Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-discipline team environment – Ability to multi-task and change priorities based on departmental needs – Ability to embrace a culture of continuous learning and improvement and refining technical skills – Take a proactive role in growth and scientific development – Improve own functional area Discretion/Latitude: – Develop strategies – Accountable for success of strategies – Provide input to develop cross-functional policies Creativity and Problem Solving: – Able to anticipate problems at project levels – Recognize risk and propose contingency plans – Anticipate the need for contingencies and develops alternative strategies Teamwork and Influence: – Communicates within the larger organization – Develops constructive relationships across the organization to achieve company and individual goals and take on leadership roles on cross-functional/divisional teams Organizational Impact: – Impact is achieved through leading workgroups and contributing to cross-functional teams Behavioral Competencies: – Champions change and Leads courageously – Networking – Provides directions – Thinks strategically Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases.
