Janssen Research & Development, LLC, a member of Johnson & Johnson’s Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Scientist located in Spring House, PA. Within Discovery Sciences, DMPK Isotope Chemistry function, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of isotope-labeled pharmaceutical compounds including radioactive carbon-14, tritium-labeled, and stable-isotope-labeled compounds and drug metabolites for use in early and late research and development studies. Responsibilities: Responsible for planning own work and executing synthesis of Carbon-14 and tritium labeling projects with supervisory direction. Works closely with a small team of scientists involved in the production and analysis of Carbon-14 and tritium labeled compounds. Develops analytical procedures and troubleshoots HPLC, LCMS and NMR analysis of synthesized compounds. Focuses on the synthesis and optimization of Carbon-14 and tritium labeling methodologies as well as implementation of novel approaches to ensure timely delivery of the highest quality products. Interacts with DMPK and discovery scientists and guides experimental design and thinking. If training is required, the candidate must have a demonstrated aptitude for learning new techniques and operating varied pieces of scientific hardware. Follow the company and government safety and environment protection regulations. Participate in radiochemistry and laboratory instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Maintain and archive laboratory records pertaining to radiosyntheses, supplies receipt and safety monitoring according to corporate policies. Track laboratory inventories and replenish common lab supplies. Interact with external suppliers, sales, and service individuals. Package and ship small quantities to other J & J or CRO sites. Qualifications A PhD with 1 to 3 years post-doctoral experience in synthetic organic chemistry related discipline. Radio-synthesis experience with C-14 and 3H isotopes and manipulation methodologies is an advantage but not necessary – training will be provided. Proven track record of developing synthesis strategies and completing synthesis projects under defined timeframes. Hands-on practical knowledge and experience in synthetic chemistry laboratory techniques and conducting reactions on the mg to gram-scale. Ability to devise novel synthesis strategies and leverage existing and basic prototype routes and modify to radiochemistry or metabolite campaigns. Can work independently with high attention to detail and safety. Possesses strong practical and theoretical analytical skill sets. Working knowledgeable of HPLC chromatography and experience in methods development. Advanced knowledge of mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present scientific data clearly and succinct manner to other scientists and business partners.
