The CVM Biomarker Team is an integrated group of scientists composed of experts in Liver, Kidney, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and other Cardiovascular and Metabolic Areas. Together, the Biomarker Team will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, the Biomarker Team serves as a pivotal bridge between Discovery Research and the later phase Clinical Development group. The Biomarker Team provides the necessary scientific expertise combined with Translational Medicine to advance an industry-leading pipeline of novel mechanism small molecules and biologic agents to ress unmet need in CVM diseases. The CVM Biomarker Team has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision-making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. The team has expertise in biomarker discovery, development, disease biology research and in the application of CVM and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development. This position will reside within the CVM Biomarker Team, can be located in Spring House or Boston, and will report to the Director, Head of Biomarkers. It requires a highly motivated and skilled candidate to assist in the clinical progression of innovative therapies across Cardiovascular and Metabolic diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of drug discovery projects and demonstrate the ability to design, shape, implement novel experiments and interpretation of data. The candidate will bring an enthusiastic discovery mentality to the Biomarker Area. The Scientist will be effective in the independent execution and troubleshooting of lab experiments for human-based in vitro stimulations, models and new assay development for disease understanding, target identification, and disease exploration. The successful candidate will serve as a Biomarker Program Lead for preclinical or clinical programs in the development and implementation of high caliber translational biomarker packages. Further, the candidate will operate in a highly collaborative environment interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders contributing high quality and timely deliverables as assessed by stakeholders such as the project team, the clinical trial team, and Biomarker leadership. The candidate will ensure delivery of completed data and analyses in support of key program milestones and drive technical excellence in translational science and biomarker research and contribute to the group’s strategic direction. The Scientist will follow best practices for Data Integrity complying with organization and company standard operating procedures in timely fashion, such as training and project time accounting. Responsibilities are as follows: – Design and execute biomarker plans integrating both disease and pathway approaches to support portfolio programs – Contribute to the strategies on molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and biomarker-based endpoint translational strategies – Take initiative to identify, pilot and internalize emerging technical approaches that may drive increased value for portfolio execution – Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular and/or cellular assays for patient stratification in clinical trials for the CVM Therapeutic Area – Partnership with external assay development/assay providers as needed to support development and execution of assays in support of CVM assets – Support new platform development in CVM Biomarkers – Work closely with other lab-based personnel within Biomarkers and Discovery to ensure optimal laboratory environment (collaboration, culture, safety, etc.) – Expected time in the lab: 80% Qualifications – Ph.D. with 1-2 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors – Creative, talented problem-solving – CVM experience with breadth of lab skills (cell biology, immune-based assays, gene expression) is required – Experience in Biomarkers is preferred – Excellent communication skills is required – Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset – This role can be based in either Spring House, PA or Boston, MA and may require up to 5% travel.
