The Scientist, Formulation Sciences will work in the large molecule Drug Product Development (DPD) department. This role requires a Scientist with expertise in Formulation Science and Protein Characterization, who will apply a balanced mixture of experimental and computational approaches to generate mechanistic data and insight to guide formulation selection/optimization. The Scientist, Formulation Sciences will have an opportunity to develop, design and perform biologics formulation development and characterization in support of formulation, process and fill-finish activities for vaccines and other biologic/cell therapy drug products. The Scientist, Formulation Sciences will participate in multi-disciplinary teams including biologists, chemical engineers, and pharmacists providing key expertise in the use and interpretation of structural data related to drug development. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE: – Design and execute experimental and computational studies to understand how antibodies interact with their environment for stability, processing, and administration. – Be proficient in protein characterization techniques and instrumentation, including HPLC, light scattering, particle measurements – Design and execute formulation development experiments for monoclonal antibodies and other biologic drug candidates (including vaccines, gene therapy), including rational formulation design/selection plus characterization studies relevant to the stage of development. Studies include, but are not limited to, biophysical characterization, stability, composition selection and robustness and development of administration protocols. – Perform dynamic modeling (coarse-grained is preferred) to address structural stability and high concertation formulation related questions – Familiarity with one or more standard computational chemistry/biophysics packages (examples might include: Gromacs, Maestro/Schrodinger, MOE/Chemical Computing Group tools) – Build clean databases using available formulation data and generate statistical models with predictive ability – Correlate predicted protein behaviors/interactions to real time experimental outputs and stability. – Communicate clearly with team members and colleagues Qualifications Required Experience: – A minimum of a PhD in protein science, chemical engineering, bioengineering, computational sciences, or related discipline is required – Strong understanding and knowledge of protein stability and biophysical techniques for characterization is required – Ability to design and execute experiments to assess structural properties of proteins is required – Ability to statistically analyze and interpret data from biophysical assays is required – Technical writing skills, including the ability to maintain high quality documentation and prepare reports, SOPs or other technical reports is required – Familiarity with one or more standard computational chemistry/biophysics packages (examples might include: Gromacs, Maestro/Schrodinger, MOE/Chemical Computing Group tools) Preferred Experience: – Experience with machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) is highly desirable – Programming in a Linux environment using a scripting language such as Python is preferred – Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams is preferred – Strong track record of publication in topics involving protein structure analysis is preferred Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
