Are you an exceptional researcher or process engineer with a deep knowledge of protein biochemistry and purification? Are you interested ining your expertise to discover novel biotherapeutics aimed at ressing the most difficult disease challenges? We at Janssen are looking for a highly motivated Scientist to work in a fast-paced R & D environmenting rigorous scientific principles towards developing state-of-the-art biological therapeutics. As a successful candidate you will be responsible for fully leveraging protein purification and protein biochemistry technologies to support multiple biologics modalities, from discovery to lead candidate selection. You will serve as a critical liaison between multiple functional groups and reside at the nexus between Lead Engineering, Biophysical Characterization and Lead Development functions within Janssen BioTherapeutics (JBIO) to execute key activities driving lead selection. Specifically, you will develop and execute methods to provide high quality purified therapeutic candidates, enabling robust biophysical characterization and in vivo studies. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, working with project teams to finalize lead candidates, understanding the key properties of diverse therapeutic molecules, establishing process and analytical characterization methods, working with development/manufacturing teams to optimize and transfer scalable protocols. Essential functions: Proactively implement strategies using ‘state-of-the-art’ technologies and improve existing processes to align with project needs enabling delivery of lead candidates in a timely fashion. Bring to bear an in-depth understanding of protein expression, protein purification and characterization of current biotherapeutics. Leverage deep knowledge and hands-on experience with versatile protein purification technologies using established chromatography, FPLC, and HPLC platforms and other analytical methods to ensure the highest quality therapeutic lead proteins. Effectively and proactively collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists on an array of diverse projects to play an integral role on project and cross-functional teams. Develop an in-depth understanding of lead molecules with a focus on multi-specific modalities, and state of the art process technologies that drive effective lead candidate selection. Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks and other records. Write technical reports, summaries, protocols, and manuscripts. Qualifications A minimum of a BS with 9 years of experience; an MS with 6 years of experience; or a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field with 1-3 years of experience is required. Experience with protein purification and characterization combined with an excellent understanding of therapeutic proteins is required. Experience with bispecific or multi-specific antibodies, novel protein therapeutics, and antibody mechanisms of action is preferred. Experience with AKTA systems, HPLC and Automation is preferred. Qualified candidates will have good organization and communication skills, a desire to collaborate, and a demonstrated knowledge of scientific principles. Ability to execute independently but thrive as a member of a high-performing team, and ultimately derive satisfaction from achieving collective success against aggressive metric-driven timelines.
