We are hiring for a Program to characterize and control microbial physiology to support building the outstanding products that enable our mission. To meet this goal, we seek a senior research associate who is creative, sharp-eyed, highly curious and collaborative. The role will help define fundamental, relevant aspects of microbial biochemistry and physiology; the person who takes on this role will interact widely throughout the network of Impossible colleagues to access a broad range of technical expertise. Together we will characterize and improve our microbial platforms by iterating through experimental design, execution and learning, then circle back to design.
Work with Program lead and team to understand, discuss and critically evaluate conceptual questions;
Measure microbial features to include macroscopic properties, microscopic structure, gene expression, enzymes and small molecule profiles;
Test our findings using common process methods to isolate microbial biopolymers and small molecules (eg, mechanical disruption, clarification and filtration);
Aggregate, help contextualize and summarize data; regularly present data at meetings and informally. We are deeply committed to transparency, accessibility, accurate communication and the proper deployment of caveats.
BS or MS in Biochemistry, Biology or related fields;
Passion for protein biochemistry and microbial physiology;
Skills required to thrive in a biochemistry or molecular biology laboratory;
The ability to keep our mission top-of-mind while zooming into and back out of details and reshuffling priorities when we learn;
A drive to communicate clearly and to continually improve this ability – the visual display of quantitative information in particular;
Perseverance; our work is meaningful, highly innovative and captivating — but not necessarily straightforward;
Ability to wrangle and communicate your data, minimally to include some programming (Python preferred).
