Position Description We are seeking a collaborative, impact-focused self-starter with a passion for and experience in water-related environmental justice research to join our mission-driven team as a Senior Researcher. Senior Researcher to lead work that supports efforts to advance water sustainability and resilience in the United States and around the world, with an explicit focus on water-related challenges faced by and solutions for the most vulnerable communities. The Senior Researcher will also lead work that helps ensure efforts to address water and sanitation needs consider future climate variability and uncertainty. Preferred applicants will have experience studying the distributional effects of environmental policy and/or the equity and fairness of environmental policy processes. Core Responsibilities Senior researchers are expected to fulfill the following core functions: Work with the leadership team and research staff to develop Pacific Institute s programmatic strategy related to vulnerable communities; Independently and creatively design and manage projects to advance Pacific Institutes mission and organizational goal; Lead fundraising for research projects and initiatives, including identifying funding opportunities and writing concept notes and grant proposals; Conduct primary and secondary research and analysis, including through collaboration with other researchers and partner organizations; Manage relationships and contributions of project team members and co-authors, as well as from collaborating organizations; Prepare final reports and written products in technical and non-technical areas; and Present findings, recommendations, and best practices at conferences, webinars, and other events. Desired Qualifications Advanced degree in relevant field, such as environmental sciences, public health, or international development, or work experience in place of a degree; At least 7 years of relevant work experience; Lived and/or work experience with environmental justice and water issues; Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct research on interdisciplinary topics; Demonstrated ability to write successful grant and research proposals; Strong quantitative and analytical skills; Excellent written communication skills, including peer-reviewed publications that show research and writing experience; Excellent oral communication skills with public speaking experience; Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds; and Experience working with diverse stakeholders in the United States and/or internationally. Compensation and Benefits Salary is commensurate with experience.
