Data science is a critical function within Janssen Immunology supporting drug discovery and development. The Computational Immunology Discovery (CID) team is a computational biology team within Immunology Discovery and the Immunology Therapeutic Area. This role is within CID and provides computational support to the wider Immunology Discovery team to facilitate the drug discovery process. Activities include partnering with wet laboratory and computational scientists to mine human molecular data for novel pathways, identify therapeutic targets within pathways of interest, and analyze molecular data from preclinical experiments to progress discovery programs. Strategically, CID s value to the pipeline by bringing human molecular data to bear early in the drug discovery process and, in doing so, builds strong rational for relevance to human disease and prospective patient stratification. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with discovery immunologists to identify new disease pathways from human molecular data, build human disease and stratification rationale, and analyze preclinical molecular data. The candidate must have deep technical background in computational biology and extensive experienceing that background to the study of complex biological systems. Interpretation of results to derive immunological insights is a key aspect of this role, so experience designing and conducting wet lab experiments is advantageous. In ition, given the collaborative nature of this role, exceptional communication and collaboration skills and an excellent ability to build relationships are critical. Specific responsibilities Integrate on to multifunctional discovery teams and identify high impact scientific questions ressable using computational approaches Develop and execute computational analysis plans in partnership with discovery immunologists in support of key scientific objectives Drive interpretation of analysis results and how these results will affect strategic direction of discovery team Contribute to experimental design in partnership with discovery immunologists to test hypotheses generated from computational analysis Monitor and evaluate emerging approaches to predicting disease biology including methods for causal inference and data mining Present analysis results to key stakeholders, proactively design and conduct analyses Prioritize analyses of high value to portfolio development Organize projects across a wide range of immunological backgrounds. Continue to develop technical expertise as a computational biologist by identifying emerging skillsets and attending appropriate training Build strong relationships with the scientific community and external innovators to ensure we are deploying the very best computational approaches Drive technical excellence and robustness in computational analysis in particular for analyses that will drive strategic decisions Qualifications 2+ years post-graduate experience with a PhD or 8+ years post-graduate experience with an MS Degree in Immunology, Biology, Computational Biology, Genomics, or related field Extensive experience gaining biological insights using computational approaches and high-dimensional biological data (e.g., transcriptomics, genomics, etc.) Extensive experience using coding languages (such as Python or R) to analyze biological data Experience within the immunology field or a closely related field of biology Exceptional communication and collaboration skills Experience analyzing single cell sequencing data is highly preferred Experience in wet lab techniques and the generation of biological data is a plus Experience navigating a matrixed organization is a plus Johnson & Johnson is an Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employer.
