Job Description Summary
This is a critical role within the Research and Development Team. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Sr. Scientist I to contribute to the research and development of monoclonal antibodies in our Antibody Discovery team. This individual will be responsible for working in a dynamic team environment and be a contributor to multiple workstreams, including, but not limited to, protein purification and tissue culture. The position requires not only extensive hands-on experience with a broad range of protein purification and analytical biochemistry techniques but also expertise in cell culture and molecular biology, with familiarity with small- to mid-scale bioproduction of monoclonal antibodies or other biologics. This position also requires an ability to think proactively and spearhead process improvements while also seeking and evaluating new technologies to to current workstreams. The successful candidate is expected to design, coordinate, and execute experiments, be detail-oriented, skilled at data analysis and troubleshooting and will be accountable for preparing and presenting data at lab meetings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform protein purification, including affinity chromatography as well as other related analytical biochemistry techniques to support antibody production.
Research, evaluate and implement solutions to optimize protein purification, analytical methods, and workstreams to optimize antibody production and support product sustainability.
Contribute to maintenance, scale-up and characterization of hybridoma and other cell lines to support product development and production. Specific requirement for considerable hands-on experience with cell-culture.
Assist with molecular biology and animal handling experiments.
Day-to-day problem-solving and cross-functional team-based activities to ensure that daily operations and timelines are met.
Independently analyze own research data, solve problems with minimal guidance and effectively plan follow up experiments. Will be expected to efficiently prioritize individual workload.
Involvement with scheduling, operational and maintenance duties required within the laboratory.
Review and approval of data, drafting appropriate protocols, reports, batch records and process documents as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Proficient in protein purification, including various chromatography and analytical biochemistry techniques. Familiarity with FPLC and/or HPLC highly preferred.
Proficient in tissue culture techniques; including experience in protein expression techniques such as growing and producing antibodies from hybridomas and/or recombinant methods.
Molecular biology and cloning.
Preparation of documentation for process transfer to Operations.
Self-motivated with effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Flexible team player with good communication skills and experience working cross-functionally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or related scientific discipline and a minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience required. PhD with a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience in ition to PhD studies preferred.
