We are seeking a Sr Scientist in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to provide specialist scientific, technical expertise and leadership required to expand our next generation sequencing (NGS) platform. This role will support all activities related to data generation by our NGS pipeline from project design, optimization of library prep protocols, running sequencing instruments, to primary sequencing data analysis and management. Accountabilities:
Apply a combination of theoretical and applied knowledge in order to strategize, guide and lead the delivery NGS-related work programs
Provide high quality practical advice to others by applying broad NGS-related experimental and data analytics work experience and theoretical knowledge
Coordinate and carry out tissue collection and preparation, DNA & RNA extraction, NGS library preparation and sequencing of libraries on in-house sequencing equipment
Provide data analysis and management expertise to NGS applications and support trait research and product
Evaluate new methods and technologies to enable the expansion of next generation sequencing (NGS) platform for higher throughput, lower cost applications (e.g., cheaper library prep, new approaches to DNA concentration normalization, etc.)
Support testing of novel methods for genotyping involving NGS as well as more traditional PCR-based approaches
Provide in-house support for continuing efforts towards rare variant detection using NGS
Be familiar with, and provide appropriate documentation for ensuring the capture of intellectual property
Manage day to day expectations of stakeholders
Ph.D., or a Masters degree with 3+ years of professional experience, in Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry, Genomics or related field
A strong understanding of NGS fundamentals and applications, critical factors influencing data quality, and an ability to troubleshoot the sequencing process end to end
Techniques in molecular biology including DNA extraction and purification, PCR and qPCR, DNA library preparation, etc.
3+ years of hands-on experience in NGS data generation with Illumina sequencers and several library preparation protocols. The ideal candidate would also have knowledge about other NGS platforms such as PacBio, Oxford Nanopore etc.
Demonstrated expertise in molecular biology wet lab skills including DNA/RNA extraction & purification from diverse tissue samples, sequencing library preparation & QC, as well as data quality QC, etc.
Extensive experience with troubleshooting and optimization of wet lab techniques to improve sequencing data quality, robustness, etc.
Expertise in the analysis and management of NGS and other big data
Individual must be authorized to work in the United States for Syngenta without work authorization sponsorship now or in the future
