Job Details Part-time | Temporary$21 – $28 an hour4 hours ago Qualifications – Patient monitoring – Writing skills – Microscopy – Bachelor’s degree Full Job Description This is a one-year temporary position with a possibility of becoming permanent. The Physiology and Developmental Biology Department is seeking to fill a 3/4-time specialized laboratory technician position. Key duties overseen by this individual may include: 1) Confocal microscope facility oversight; 2) Zebrafish FacilitySupport; 3)Teaching and research lab equipment oversight (training and maintenance). The individual will need to be available for up to 28 hours per week with a somewhat flexible schedule. He/she will work closely with faculty, staff and students, and will be responsible for training users on research equipment such as microscopes and microtomes, as well as interacting with users in the zebrafish facilities. Essential Functions Supervise and train microscope facility users – The successful candidate must be able to quickly learn essential microscopy skills, and become competent to train and oversee students and others in the use of microscopes in the confocal facility. This includes oversight of scheduling and billing users, equipment maintenance, and updating training modules. Support research personnel in the fish facility – The successful candidate will become trained and authorized to support research using zebrafish as a model organism. Duties include monitoring animal health, maintaining various zebrafish strains, feeding, cleaning the facility, performing maintenance on the aquaria, ordering supplies and interacting with students, faculty and facility staff to support research projectss that require the use of animals. Monitor research and teaching equipment – The individual will inventory and monitor essential research and teaching lab equipment, schedule maintenance and repair, and train student users. He/she will help identify equipment for recommended replacement, train users on new equipment, and otherwise support the experimental use of department equipment. Education/Experience – Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 1 year experience in one or more of the listed essential functions is preferred. Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in training others on equipment use and managing employees.
