Summary Highly developed subject matter expertise in ferrous and aluminum alloy production, materials and process selection for engineering designs. Support manufacturing and suppliers corporate wide, maximize metallographic and fractographic interpretation and have a solid foundation of OEM failure analysis. Essential_Duties_And_Responsibilities * Support supervisor and corporation through the execution of job assignments, consisting of the analysis and testing of various materials with a focus on steel and aluminum alloys and processes * Communicate the results of analysis activity in both concise written and oral formats * Utilize various materials and process engineering tools to acquire data for reports that a novice customer can understand, metallograph, stereo microscope, microhardness indenter, semi-automatic metallographic grinder/polisher, metallographic sample molder, standard and precision cut-off saws, 35mm camera, Keyence Digital Microscope, ultrasonic cleaner, Q-U-V chamber, and Salt fog chambers * Proficient and capable of maximizing the use of metallography sample preparation, etching, and microstructural interpretation * Proficient in and the ability to execute material failure analysis methodology * Conduct and monitor product qualification test programs on different materials and processes, i.e., adhesives/sealants, polymer matrix composites, abrasion resistant materials, metal matrix composites, etc. * Working knowledge of industry standards including but not limited to SAE, ASTM, MIL-DTL, ASME,AMS, AGMA * Interface with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing under pressure to keep production moving * Highly proficient in the operation and interpretation of scanning electron microscopy with SDD EDAX and EBSD detectors * Experience with metallographic image analysis tools and techniques * Utilize FTIR micro and macroscope to identify materials samples using comparative analysis with system library * Utilize Load frames for metals and polymers to identify mechanical properties * Working Understanding of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, fracture mechanics * Working knowledge of high strain rate material testing for ballistic characterization is a plus Basic_Qualifications * Bachelor s degree in Materials and Process Engineering, Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering * 3-Years related industry experience * An openness to share and listen to ideas of co-workers and provide a positive contribution to the group Preferred_Qualifications * Experience with Failure Analysis Methodology of various materials with emphasis on ferrous and aluminum alloy systems * Ability to provide detailed cause of failure and be able to understand the load case to which the component is exposed and provide recommendations on how to prevent failures from occurring in the future * Provide direction to the various business segments to prevent failures during customer operation * Delight the customer with solid, easily understandable results and communicate ideas on an even playing field to achieve complete understanding and execution of materials and process changes Oshkosh is committed to working with and offering reasonable accommodation to job applicants with disabilities.
