The North American Core team is accountable for solving customer’s technical challenges and demonstrating the uses & benefits of new and existing products for our region. As a Technical Service Scientist you will lead customer-based projects particularly supporting our Additives product line of Dispersants and Waxes. These will cover varied end use applications such metal, wood and masonry coatings. You will work closely with customers to understand their problems and needs and will then develop solutions to address them. You will be charged with elevating our formulation and testing capabilities to industry-leading standards and develop supporting data for new segments and applications. Key Responsibilities – Work with customers in the North America region to define applications projects in line with our Additives strategic growth plans. Conduct lab evaluations and development projects to meet those targets then support customers in adopting our solutions. Primarily this will focus on our Dispersants line, but support other product lines as required. – In conjunction with Account Managers, Sales Managers and the Technical Marketing team, support customers through visits, conferences, call, training sessions etc. Provide recommendations, results and data to end users as appropriate. – Lead and execute short to medium term development projects such as product modifications in order to meet customer specific needs. – Develop and maintain in-house formulation and testing capabilities that is equal to (if not better than) our customer base. – Support Marketing team in developing supporting application data and business cases for adjacent markets in which we do not actively participate at this time. – Collaborate with Lubrizol personnel around the world to extend structure-property-performance understanding throughout the organization. Proactively share data and learnings. Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements – B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field from an accredited college/university. – Minimum 5 years’ experience formulating and testing materials in the required market. – Understanding of paint technologies, especially additives. – Willingness to travel to customers for meetings, evaluations etc (est. 20% initially but expected to increase over time). – Experience in working with customer, listening and presentation skills. – Ability to work safely within LZAM laboratories and customer facilities. – Self-development skills, and ability to work well within a team. – Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously. – Good understanding of Design of Experiments (DOE). – Self-starter, highly motivated toward achievements, results-oriented. Considered a Plus – Testing expertise in application areas such as wood, metal, masonry plastics. – Knowledge of the polymers and additives used in the above-mentioned market formulations. – Demonstrated ability preparing and delivering customer-ready reports, papers and presentations.
