Full Job Description
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or a related science
Five years full time clinical laboratory experience within the last ten years under the supervision of a board certified pathologist including 1-2 years lead or supervisory experience
Strong communication, problem solving, leadership, decision making, and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of procedures and equipment used in sections supervised.
Fiscal and budgeting knowledge.
Familiarity with fundamental statistics of quality control in the laboratory.
Experience with LIS and personal computers.
Familiarity with fundamental regulatory standards of Accrediting Organization, CAP, OSHA, and other agencies
Certified as a Medical Technologist MT or Medical Laboratory Scientist MLT by ASCP Board of Certification, American Medical Technologists, or equivalent. This may be as a generalist or in a specialty.
Microbiology experience required.
Performs delegated management responsibilities as required.
Responds as a salaried employee to the needs of the department beyond the ordinary work shift.
Active participation in various committees as requested by manager or pathologists.
Exposure to hazardous biological or chemical substances and infectious agents.
The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and oversee the activities of the technical sections. The supervisor directs the administrative activities of the sections, and assumes responsibility for daily operations to assure provision of timely, accurate, and comprehensive Laboratory service for physicians, patients, and other customers.
Document and monitor activities related to the preparation of required data and reports.
Develops and educates employees and students regarding concerns and department and corporate based philosophy and programs.
Responsible for budgetary management, performance and fiscal oversight of area of responsibility and attends and participates in departmental and system wide meetings, committees, etc.
Provides a safe working environment for laboratory personnel on all shifts and in accordance with CAP, Accrediting Organization, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
Implements Advocate system wide initiatives including:
Provide leadership, including planning, directing and coordinating Laboratory services comprised of Chemistry, Cytology, Hematology, Point of Care Testing, Surgical Pathology, Microbiology, Phlebotomy and preparation of tests for send out to insure timely, accurate, cost effective and customer oriented services at all time.
Provides management and supervision to the personnel of site Laboratory.
Develops and maintains section quality control programs to ensure that test results are precise, accurate and timely and that laboratory standards and regulations are met.
