Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year, beginning July 2021, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor. About Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, selective liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. Together, the two divisions enroll approximately 2900 students. Oberlin College was the first college in the US to make interracial education and co-education central to its mission. Among liberal arts colleges, Oberlin is a national leader in successfully placing graduates into PhD programs. The Biology Department has 10 full-time faculty with interests spanning biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, development, plant biology, genomics, ecology, conservation biology, behavior, systematics, evolutionary biology, and inclusive pedagogy, as well as two full-time instructors and a large support staff. Biology is one of the largest majors on campus, and complements other life science programs (i.e., Neuroscience and Biochemistry) at Oberlin. Responsibilities The incumbent will teach a total of five courses. The successful candidate will teach a section of our introductory Organismal Biology course, upper-level lecture or lecture/laboratory courses in the areas of organismal biology, human global/public health, biomedical or molecular biology (e.g., vertebrate anatomy, human reproduction, infectious disease, immunology, nutrition, epidemiology, etc), and possibly a non-majors course in global/public health. Qualifications Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2021-22). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
