ABOUT THE ROLE
The position of Chemist has, as its primary responsibility, professional chemical support for raw materials, in-
process materials and finished product quality. He/she will monitor lab test results and product quality; and provide
guidance and coordination to make the necessary adjustments to ensure established quality standards are
maintained.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work
environments and areas. - Maintain quality parameters that meet the necessary requirements outlined by ASTM, AASHTO, State DOT's
and customer requests. - Provide quality and process interpretation for the clinker through microscopy in polished samples.
- Calibrate, maintain and certify instrumentation and analytical equipment.
- Maintain analytical equipment calibration and certification Provide training for new employees or new
techniques for existing employees. - Ensures a safe work environment and safe working procedures are developed and maintained.
- Performs laboratory tests of cement, clinker, concrete materials, and other inorganic materials using XRF/XRD, microscopy etc.
- Participates in the Amrize Round Robin testing program and the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL).
- Conducts thorough QC/QA review of lab raw data prior to report drafts being formatted and maintains proficiency with the lab data management system.
- Completes plant trials related to new product development, and process improvements under the direction of the Quality Manager.
- Takes on temporary supervisor responsibilities in the absence of the Lab Supervisor to facilitate plant lab daily operations, training schedules, vacation leave coverage, etc. as required.
- Develops analytical methods and SOPs.
- Supports purchasing of consumable supplies and materials used in lab operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Life Science, preferably in Chemistry
Required Work Experience: 3 years of related production or research laboratory experience
Required Computer and Software Skills: Above-average computer skills and the ability to complete reporting requirements.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work cooperatively in a professional team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of technical and toxicological compound analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of complex laboratory equipment, instruments, and hardware/software applications used in compound evaluation.
- Knowledge of co-processing and waste management operations and accompanying permitting and regulatory requirements.
- Command of all oral and written communication skills necessary to translate technical laboratory processes and procedures to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to instruct other laboratory personnel in clinical procedures and methods of analysis and results interpretations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex laboratory procedures to analyze samples.
- Able to determine appropriate laboratory procedures, select a sampling technique, perform the necessary analytical analyses, and reach a conclusion with recommendations.
- Knowledge of permit and waste stream acceptability.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
