Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for supplier quality while also maintaining and improving quality systems, data analysis and customer interface, quality practices and continuous improvement activities.

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures. Establish, support and maintain a “safety first” culture. 
  • Maintains supplier quality systems, supplier audits, compliance requirements, etc.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventative actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Implement statistical based problem solving methods through the use of Six Sigma practices, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor process capability thru stastical analysis of lab data and make recommendations for changes to product specifications.
  • Determines quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes
  • Initiates process improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce costs, simplify processes and improve quality.
  • Supports process and test method validation activities by developing and executing protocols for new or existing processes
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of nonconforming material and ensures that effective root cause analysis is conducted; tracks implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Interfaces with customers and vendors to provide technical support for our products and assures quality of incoming materials.
  • Supports research and development and manufacturing departments to ensure successful transition of products and processes from design to production
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
  • Maintain a database for product and supplier specifications and review as needed
  • Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
  • Involvement in ISO Quality Management Systems requirements and audits
  • Participates in supplier audits and supply feedback for continuous improvement
  • Validate information, reports, practices, changes for effectiveness and accuracy
  • Meets/exceeds quality metrics and goals of claims vs. sales
  • Participate in employee involvement programs such as project teams, committees, and internal training.
  • Effectively interact with all internal functional job levels and with external agencies and resources in order to maximize the effectiveness of the quality assurance program.
  • Partners with EHS&S for site regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain and increase professional knowledge and expertise related to the quality assurance field
  • Support and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, quality, high performance and process excellence.
  • Maintains a team effort attitude and approach.
  • Other related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in Quality Management, Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Certified Quality Engineer a plus. Six Sigma certification preferred (green or black belt)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a quality engineer role. Manufacturing experience preferably extrusion, textiles or paper

  • Detailed knowledge of the company and product technologies, data analysis skills, broad understanding of related technologies.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing industry (non-woven or textile-related preferred).
  • Detailed knowledge of ISO 9001: Quality Management Systems and other registration bodies like CCMC, AASHTO, etc.
  • Strong Statistical Analysis skills using Excel and Minitab
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Internal Auditing Requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard office machines and computer software including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sound organizational skills and work habits.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects or tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, smell.  The employee must periodically lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  The employee will frequently climb up to three levels above floor level. 

Work environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time; dust; heat; humidity, odors.  The noise level in the work environment varies and hearing protection is required in some work areas.  The employee is frequently exposed to extremely high-speed machinery with open inward turning rolls, extremely hot surface areas and moving lift truck traffic.
