ABOUT THIS FEATURED OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced UX Researcher with deep expertise in audio and hearing-related research to help shape next-generation AR/VR and wearable consumer devices. This role focuses on understanding how people perceive, interact with, and benefit from augmented audio experiences, including conversation enhancement, spatial audio, and accessibility-focused hearing features in real-world contexts.

You will apply rigorous mixed-methods research, with a strong emphasis on quantitative and experimental approaches, to guide early-stage research and advanced prototyping. Working closely with cross-functional partners across research, engineering, and design, you will translate user insights into actionable recommendations that directly influence the development of audio-driven AR/VR experiences.

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU

  • Design and conduct research to inform the development of audio-centric AR/VR and wearable device experiences, with a focus on hearing and augmented audio features

  • Lead quantitative UX research, including lab-based experimentation, psychophysical and psychoacoustic methods, controlled studies, surveys, and statistical analysis, supplemented by qualitative methods where appropriate

  • Evaluate how users perceive, interact with, and derive value from augmented audio, conversation enhancement technologies, and hearing-related features

  • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable, and measurable UX recommendations and partner with cross-functional teams to drive implementation

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other researchers to influence the direction of future audio-enabled AR/VR experiences

  • Independently manage end-to-end research efforts, including study design, data collection, analysis, reporting, and knowledge sharing

    KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting applied research in an audio-related domain is required (e.g., hearing science, audiology, spatial audio, speech communication, audio quality evaluation, or audio-focused consumer devices)

  • MS in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Perceptual Psychology, Hearing/Speech Sciences, or a closely related UX field

  • 2+ years of experience conducting applied UX research on consumer products, with a strong emphasis on quantitative and experimental methods

  • Strong foundation in experimental design, inferential statistics, and data analysis

  • Experience working with qualitative methods such as interviews and usability studies

  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional product or research teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Perceptual Psychology, Hearing/Speech Sciences, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience conducting behavioral or attitudinal research with audio-enabled devices (e.g., AR/VR headsets, smart glasses, headphones, hearables, smart speakers)

  • Hands-on experience with psychophysical or psychoacoustic research methods

  • Proficiency in statistical programming and data visualization (e.g., R, Python)

  • Experience researching or developing AR/VR, wearable, or spatial computing technologies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Focus on early-stage and exploratory audio research, shaping future-facing AR/VR and wearable experiences
  • Opportunity to work on novel, experimental audio and hearing features without rigid product timelines

  • High-impact role influencing how augmented audio and hearing technologies are experienced in everyday life
