Senior Research and Development Chemist
Our client are an independent, family-owned company who manufacture organic intermediates for the Pharmaceutical, Agrochemical, Rubber, Polymer, Food & Beverage and allied industries.
An opportunity has arisen in the Research and Development Team for a Senior R&D Chemist.
Duties and Responsibilities
* To carry out research and development on projects allocated using the resources available in the department as efficiently and safely as possible and produce associated reports and paperwork. Will work under supervision from the Process Research Manager or a Senior Research Chemist as required.
* Make full use of the library for process development, process improvement and problem solving.
* Produce full documentation for projects to assist with smooth technology transfer.
* Operate existing analytical methods and interpret results. Develop new methods in conjunction with the Senior Research Analyst.
* Develop processes for safe and efficient large scale manufacture with supervision from a Senior Chemist or the Process Research Manager as necessary.
* Assist with the execution of various assessments to comply with regulations.
* To work on allocated projects in both the laboratory and pilot plant with supervision from either a Senior Research Chemist or the Process Research Manager as required.
* Be involved in the design of experimental laboratory work to be relevant to and applicable to large scale (pilot plant) and full scale (works) manufacture.
* To be able to understand and use equipment in the general running of the laboratory and pilot plant.
* Occasionally liaise with other departments, participate in Process Improvement Groups (pIG) and discuss project progress with customers. May rarely be involved in site visits..
* Frequently expected to work to deadlines set both internally and by the customer.
* Ensure full and accurate experimental records are kept for laboratory work carried out and record aspects of project development to ISO 900 I standard.
* Produce written technical reports on each project in the form required.
* Assist with the generation of process instructions to GtvIP standards for projects operated in the pilot plant
* To be familiar with safety, quality and environmental standards such as COSHH, COMAH, IPC, IS(phone number removed) etc.
* In conjunction with Senior Research Analyst develop analytical methods using spectroscopic, chromatographic or any other analytical technique as necessary to monitor progress of chemical reactions and / or analyse final products.
* To be fully conversant with interpretation of results and application of results to achievement of project objectives.
* Carry out routine operation of analytical instrumentation and associated computer software including occasional simple maintenance. Occasionally operate the analytical laboratory in the absence of the Research Analyst.
Candidate Specification:
* Minimum degree in Chemistry
* Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ISIS Draw etc. A good level of relevant laboratory experience.
* Good communication skills required including detailed report writing.
* Knowledge of legislation relevant to job.
Working hours, salary and benefits:
* Salary in the range of £32k – negotiable on experience and suitability for role.
* 36.25 hour week
