Job Title: Cell Culture Scientist
Job Location: Groton, CT
Job Duration: 12 Months (possibility of extension)
Shift: Monday – Friday 7:30/8:00am start time – 8hr shift
Pay Rate: $33.33/hr on w2
Job Summary:
- This individual in this role will provide mammalian cell culture scale-up and laboratory support.
- Responsibilities include preparation of medium, ordering of tissue culture supplies, routine mammalian cell culture (counting, passaging, banking, QC testing), and scale-up and provisioning of fresh and cryo-preserved cell reagents to end users.
- The individual must be highly proficient in aseptic mammalian cell culture technique and be able to maintain multiple cell culture lines in parallel (adherent and suspension cells).
- In this role, the individual must also be well organized, maintain up-to-date records to ensure proper tracking of cell lines, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work in a team environment.
Position Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate basic laboratory skills to propagate and maintain various continuous and primary cell lines including preparation of medium and mycoplasma testing to ensure cell line sterility.
- Scale-up and provisioning of fresh and cryo-preserved cell reagents
- Comply with all safety training and good laboratory practices.
- Maintain up-to-date electronic laboratory notebooks and records in accordance with client policy and ensure proper archiving of banked cell lines.
- Communicate verbally and through writing to end users on timelines, status, and deliverables
Organizational Relationships:
- Interaction with lab scientists in pharmacology and high-throughput screening labs within Discovery Biology and Pharmacology.
Education And Experience:
- Bachelor of Science with at least 1 year of experience with aseptic mammalian cell culture in a laboratory setting
Technical Skills Requirements:
- Highly proficient in aseptic mammalian cell culture technique
Physical Position Requirements.
- Sitting, standing, light lifting on a daily basis within a lab setting, bending, and walking.
- Ability to perform practical laboratory bench work and lifting of multi-layer cell culture flasks.
- Ability to work on a computer (while standing or sitting).
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.
