Job Title: Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Duration: 10+ months
Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA
Shift Time: 8 AM – 4 :30 PM Su Mo Tu We Th

Pay Range : $45/hr – $51/hr

Description:
Role Overview

  • Accountable for performing clinical laboratory testing
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable policies and procedures

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate to highly complex clinical tests independently
  • Conduct newly introduced laboratory tests requiring specialized skills
  • Prepare and oversee preparation of reagents, media, standards, controls, and stock solutions
  • Evaluate new reagents and controls based on standard criteria
  • Assess specimen acceptability as per established testing procedures
  • Calculate and interpret test results using manual or computerized methods
  • Accurately enter and review test results to ensure proper reporting
  • Maintain turnaround times by adhering to analytical schedules
  • Evaluate routine and complex analyses before releasing patient reports
  • Take appropriate action on critical, unusual, or unexpected results and document actions
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of lab equipment
  • Conduct instrument performance checks (linearity, accuracy, precision)
  • Perform and monitor Quality Control (QC) and calibration activities
  • Evaluate QC results to ensure accuracy before releasing reports
  • Select and assess control materials; initiate corrective actions when needed
  • Perform and document proficiency testing accurately
  • Identify and resolve technical/operational issues; escalate when required
  • Ensure proper tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, and stakeholders
  • Participate in staff and quality improvement meetings
  • Take on additional responsibilities/projects as assigned (e.g., method evaluation, cost analysis, procedure updates)
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and infection control policies
  • Dispose of waste according to proper procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality with high integrity and professionalism
  • Supervise and train unlicensed staff as required
  • Support training programs where applicable
  • Engage in continuous education to meet licensing requirements
  • Handle calls, messages, and communication tasks as needed
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Work Experience

  • 0–3 years of direct laboratory experience
  • Offer rate based on years of experience

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Lift and carry:
    • 1–10 lbs frequently
    • 11–25 lbs occasionally
    • 26–50 lbs rarely
    • Over 50 lbs with assistance only
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks (grasping, reaching, fine manipulation)
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Color vision testing required for applicable roles

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong typing skills preferred
  • Automation skills are a plus

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Medical Technology or life/physical sciences (required)
  • Current state CLS license (required in California)
