Job Description:
Pay Range: $45hr – $53hr
- The Clinical Laboratory Scientist independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests, prepares and evaluates reagents and controls, and ensures laboratory compliance with safety and quality standards.
- This role requires attention to detail, adherence to analytical schedules, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Responsibilities:
- Independently perform moderate to highly complex clinical tests following required procedures and policies.
- Prepare and oversee reagents, stock solutions, standards, and controls.
- Evaluate new reagents or controls for usefulness.
- Determine specimen acceptability and calculate results using manual or computerized methods.
- Enter testing results accurately and monitor reporting through computer review reports.
- Evaluate routine and complex analyses and take appropriate actions in response to critical or unexpected results.
- Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Perform and evaluate instrument performance checks, linearity, accuracy, and precision.
- Perform Quality Control and calibrations, evaluating results for acceptability.
- Select and evaluate control materials and initiate corrective actions when needed.
- Accurately perform and document proficiency testing.
- Detect and resolve technical and operational problems; coordinate with supervisor or manufacturer as needed.
- Maintain proper labeling and tracking of reagents and supplies.
- Keep work area safe and organized.
- Communicate effectively with staff, management, and internal/external customers.
- Participate in staff and Quality Improvement meetings.
- Take on delegated responsibilities or projects such as evaluating new procedures, method comparisons, cost analysis, and writing technical procedures.
- Follow company policies for safety, environmental, and infection control.
- Dispose of waste properly and wear required PPE.
- Maintain confidentiality with integrity.
- Supervise and train unlicensed staff; support training programs where applicable.
- Participate in continuing education to meet California licensure requirements.
- Answer and transfer phone calls or take accurate messages.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirement/Must Have:
- Zero to three years of direct experience in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds; heavier objects require assistance.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks, sit or stand for extended periods, and have good eye-hand coordination.
- Must pass color blindness test if applicable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong typing and automation skills helpful.
- BS in Medical Technology or Life/Physical Sciences from an accredited college or university is required.
