Job Description:
Pay Range: $50hr – $57hr
- We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform moderate to highly complex clinical tests, ensure accuracy of results, and support laboratory operations in compliance with policies, safety, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following required procedures and policies.
- Performs newly introduced tests to the laboratory that require defined skills.
- Prepares and oversees preparation of reagents, media, stock solutions, standards, and controls.
- Tests new reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria.
- Determines acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Determines calculated results using manual or computerized procedures.
- Accurately enters test results and checks review reports to ensure accuracy.
- Adheres to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times of results.
- Evaluates the acceptability of analyses prior to releasing patient reports.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to critical values or unexpected results and documents actions taken.
- Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Evaluates instrument performance checks and performs linearity, accuracy, and precision checks.
- Performs Quality Control and calibrations with required frequency and evaluates results.
- Selects and evaluates control materials using established criteria.
- Initiates corrective actions when test systems do not perform according to established standards.
- Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.
- Detects and corrects technical and operational problems, notifies supervisors, and contacts manufacturer or field support as necessary.
- Ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies.
- Maintains a safe and neat work area.
- Communicates effectively with staff, management, suppliers, and customers.
- Participates in staff and Quality Improvement meetings as assigned.
- Takes on additional responsibilities such as evaluation of new techniques, method comparison, cost analysis, and procedure development.
- Follows procedures and guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control.
- Collects and disposes of waste properly.
- Maintains confidentiality with integrity and honesty.
- Provides supervision and training to unlicensed staff and supports training programs.
- Maintains professional growth through continuing education required for California licensure.
- Answers phones, transfers calls, and takes accurate messages.
- Complies with all health and safety policies and uses personal protective equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Work Experience:
- Zero to three years of direct experience in a laboratory setting.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry objects in the range of 1 to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with good hand and eye coordination.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
- Ability to perform grasping, reaching, and fine manipulation tasks.
- Testing for color blindness required for technical functions involving color detection.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong typing skills.
- Automation skills helpful.
Qualification And Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Medical Technology or other life/physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
- Mass Spectrometry experience preferred.
