Job Description:
Pay Range: $45hr – $53hr
- The Medical Technologist performs complex clinical tests and ensures the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- This role involves the preparation and evaluation of reagents and controls, equipment maintenance, and strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
- The Medical Technologist is also responsible for troubleshooting, performing calibrations, training staff, and maintaining compliance with laboratory protocols and state licensure requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following required procedures and policies.
- Prepares and oversees the preparation of reagents, media, stock solutions, standards, and controls.
- Tests and evaluates new reagents or controls based on standard criteria.
- Determines specimen acceptability for testing according to established criteria.
- Calculates results using manual or computerized procedures and accurately enters data.
- Reviews reports to ensure accurate laboratory result reporting and maintains turnaround times.
- Evaluates the acceptability of analyses before releasing patient reports and takes appropriate action for critical or unexpected results.
- Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Conducts instrument performance checks, linearity, accuracy, and precision assessments as required.
- Performs and evaluates Quality Control and calibrations, initiating corrective actions when necessary.
- Performs proficiency testing accurately and records results.
- Detects and corrects technical and operational problems, escalating as needed.
- Maintains accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies.
- Ensures a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Communicates effectively with staff, management, suppliers, and customers.
- Participates in staff and Quality Improvement meetings.
- Assists in projects such as evaluating new techniques, establishing reference ranges, and revising technical procedures.
- Follows all safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.
- Disposes of waste appropriately and maintains confidentiality.
- Supervises and trains unlicensed staff as required.
- Pursues continuing education to meet professional growth and licensure requirements.
- Answers phones, transfers calls, or takes accurate messages.
- Complies with all health and safety policies and uses personal protective equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience:
- 0 3 years of direct experience in a laboratory setting.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong typing and data entry skills.
- Automation and technical troubleshooting skills preferred.
Qualification And Education:
- Bachelor s degree in medical technology or other life/physical sciences from an accredited college or university (required).
