Responsibilities:
The Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) I will work Part Time, Various Shifts and Weekends and will perform and verify (reports) laboratory tests and/or prepares products for transfusion on acceptable specimens to obtain accurate data in accordance with established procedures and protocols and in a timely manner.

 

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I performs quality control (QC), and proficiency testing (PT) as assigned.

As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I, you will maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, reagents and/or supplies required in performance of job responsibilities.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I direct, review, and /or verify work of other clinical laboratory personnel, students, and/or nursing staff as assigned by a Manager/Technical Specialist / Coordinator or Charge Person.

Any Medical Technologist meeting NYSDOH qualifications of supervisor (part 58 of 10 NYCR, section 1.4) may be required to perform supervisory functions in the absence of the regular supervisor.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I keeps the Technical Specialist/Charge Person informed and communicates effectively to ensure vital patient and operational information is shared among co-workers and shifts appropriately as indicated by departmental feedback and/or observed by manager/technical specialist/coordinator.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I maintains technical competence within areas of responsibility by completing annual competency requirements as defined by departmental policy and documented within the department.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist I understands the existing and potential hazard in the work area in such a way as to prevent injury/illness by following hospital and laboratory health and safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Education:

Candidates must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.

Experience:

Experience in standard laboratory methodologies required.

Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Licensure/Certificates:

Licensure by NYS SED as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required, or licensure-eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

Scope of Practice:

Individuals are required to practice within the responsibilities of their license and perform specific tasks for which they have been deemed competent.

Skills:

Must be capable of using effective oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to organize and prioritize workload with minimum supervision.

Physical Requirements:

The individual in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access relevant work stations.

Must have the ability to push/pull less than 50 lbs and lift objects of less than 50 lbs.

Must have the ability to identify and differentiate colors.
