Company Description

iMETALX, Inc. is at the forefront of transforming the space industry by providing innovative solutions in space domain awareness (SDA) and in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing (ISAM) for both government and commercial customers. Our mission is to make space more accessible and sustainable through advanced technology and an agile, small team approach.

As a Data Scientist Intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and scientists, contributing to critical projects that impact the future of space operations. You will gain hands-on experience in data analysis, algorithm development, and machine learning while helping us derive insights from complex datasets.

Role Overview:

In this role, you’ll assist in analyzing large datasets to extract meaningful insights that drive decision-making processes. You’ll contribute to developing predictive models, performing statistical analyses, and collaborating with various teams to integrate data-driven solutions into ongoing projects.

Hands-on experience with programming languages and tools, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to communicate findings effectively are essential for success in this internship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets to support project goals and objectives.
  • Develop predictive models using machine learning algorithms to test hypotheses and uncover trends.
  • Visualize data and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate data solutions into systems design and development.
  • Stay updated on best practices in data science and machine learning methodologies.

Who You Are

  • A self-motivated individual with a keen interest in data science and its applications in the aerospace industry.
  • Strong analytical skills, capable of tackling complex problems with structured thinking.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar tools, and familiar with data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy).
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Excited about working in a fast-paced, innovative environment and eager to learn from experienced professionals.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and programming languages, with a focus on Python or R.
  • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Sausalito, CA during the internship period.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to ITAR export-control restrictions, as this position may involve export-controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or project experience in data analysis, machine learning, or a related domain.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis methods and frameworks.
  • Exposure to cloud computing platforms or data processing frameworks.
