Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist

Malvern, PA (Onsite)

Full Time OR Contract (No 3rd party resumes)

Job Description

Our client is seeking a dynamic FSQA Specialist to join our team at our finished goods manufacturing plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and managing food safety and quality assurance programs, including the development of HACCP plans, monitoring SQF (Safe Quality Food) systems, and handling daily quality issues.

This individual also performs statistical analysis and serves as a backup to the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager in their absence. They will play a critical role in ensuring that product handling, preparation, and storage comply with food safety regulations and standards.

TASKS, DUTIES, & GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • HACCP: Develop, implement, monitor, and maintain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans to identify and control food safety hazards.
  • PCQI Responsibilities: Utilize Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) training to ensure that risk-based preventive controls are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • SQF System Monitoring: Monitor and manage Safe Quality Food (SQF) systems to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Daily Quality Management: Address and resolve daily quality issues related to production processes, ingredients, and finished products to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analysis of quality data to identify trends, root causes of issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety regulations and standards, including FDA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping : Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of food safety and quality assurance activities, including audits, inspections, corrective actions, and quality metrics.
  • Training and Development: Train and mentor staff on food safety practices, regulatory requirements, and company policies to promote a culture of food safety and quality.
  • Backup Support: Serve as the backup to the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager or Quality Supervisor, taking over their duties and responsibilities in their absence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in food safety and quality assurance processes and implement best practices to enhance product quality and safety.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to ensure food safety and quality standards are met.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, Microbiology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification is required.
  • HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) Certification is required.
  • Experience with Safe Quality Food (SQF) systems and training is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and exhibit interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and function collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in using food safety management software and other relevant technology tools.
  • Strong capability in conducting statistical analysis and interpreting data to drive quality improvements.
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry trends and regulatory changes.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is located at our manufacturing site in Devault, PA and require attendance on-site attendance
  • Warehouse and production manufacturing environment that includes both tempered and ambient areas.
  • The work environment is representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, step, balance, crouch, stoop, kneel, squat, bend, occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., reach above shoulders, or as needed to complete tasks.
  • Must be able to occasionally climb stairs or a ladder to complete tasks.
  • Position located in a mix of production and office environments and requires a tolerance for consistent cold work environments (-10 to -40
    F), high worker traffic, loud noises, odors, dust, and varying room temperatures.
  • This position will be required to visit the production floor, refrigerated and frozen storage, and warehouses.
  • Work flexible shifts as required.
  • Understand that occasional weekends and/or worked holidays will be required based on company needs.
