Job Description:

  • The Human Factors Lab Assistant will play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations within the Human Factors Engineering laboratory.
  • This includes assisting with usability studies, maintaining and preparing lab equipment, managing supplies, and ensuring the lab remains compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
  • The ideal candidate will bring a strong sense of organization, technical aptitude, and a foundational knowledge of human factors research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the setup, configuration, and teardown of da Vinci systems and other lab equipment for human factors research and usability testing.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; troubleshoot basic technical issues as needed.
  • Operate and manage data collection tools such as video recording systems, biometric sensors, and eye-tracking devices.
  • Monitor and restock lab consumables to ensure necessary materials are readily available.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Ensure all lab activities align with safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with human factors engineers and research staff to improve lab operations and processes.
  • Provide administrative support including procurement, scheduling, preparation of study materials, and coordinating logistics for research activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 2 4 years of experience in a lab technician, project coordinator, or similar support role.
  • Basic knowledge of human factors principles and usability testing methods.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and study participants.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with research data collection software.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow SOPs, protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Flexible, proactive, and eager to adapt to changing lab needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with usability testing tools, survey platforms, or statistical software.
  • Background in medical devices, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with lab safety practices and equipment upkeep.
  • Hands-on experience conducting ergonomic, cognitive workload, or user interface studies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transport lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable standing or working for extended periods in a lab environment.
