Schedule / Shift: 2nd Shift — Tuesday–Saturday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Job Overview

The Lab Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by performing routine laboratory functions with a high degree of accuracy, safety, and efficiency. This role assists laboratory professionals by handling specimen processing, equipment support, quality activities, and general lab operations to ensure smooth production and compliance.

This position is well-suited for candidates interested in gaining hands-on experience in a medical laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specimen Handling: Sort, receive, store, retrieve, and prepare specimens for testing.
  • Laboratory Processing: Centrifuge specimens, aliquot samples, build worklists, prepare slides, inoculate samples, and check specimens for clots or fibrin.
  • Equipment Support: Perform routine instrument maintenance and weekly radioactive wipe tests; change gas cylinders as needed.
  • Reagents & Media: Prepare reagents and/or media according to laboratory procedures.
  • Quality Activities: Perform QA/QC duties as assigned, resolve pending lists, and locate missing samples.
  • Safety & Compliance: Decontaminate work areas, dispose of biohazardous materials, and follow all PPE and safety regulations.
  • Documentation & Systems: Maintain department files, record temperature data, complete training and competency checklists, and use laboratory computer systems and PCs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to establish work priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to retain and apply learned information.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to interact with coworkers, internal teams, and external customers with courtesy and respect.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical assistant training.
  • Coursework in math and science.
  • Interest or exposure to laboratory or medical environments.

Work Experience

  • No prior laboratory experience required.

Work Conditions

  • Onsite role in Irving, TX.
  • Second-shift schedule (Tuesday–Saturday).
  • Must comply with all laboratory safety, PPE, and regulatory requirements.
