Job Description
Title: Reserach Associate
Daily work hours: 9:30 – 6:00 PST
Seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the implementation of sensitive and scalable molecular assays for the detection and quantification of viral and bacterial pathogens in wastewater.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both operational processing of wastewater through established protocols and have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new assays and techniques.
Ideal candidates will have had hands-on experience performing molecular assays on degraded, low-concentration samples.
Candidates should have a passion for the potential of wastewater-based epidemiology to mitigate pandemics, be highly organized and detail oriented, possess excellent work ethic, and be excited about ’s mission to improve human health.
Responsibilities
Execute and rigorously document complex molecular biology protocols on wastewater samples in a consistent, efficient manner.
Assist with hypothesis-driven troubleshooting for process deviations and unexpected results, as necessary.
Support and maintain reagent preparation and inventory, record-keeping, and related administrative tasks in an organized and transparent fashion.
Preferred qualifications:
BS in Genome Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related field or 3+ years professional experience.
1-2 years of industry experience with molecular biology; isolation of nucleic acids from a variety of material types and quantification methods.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Enthusiasm, independence, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, team environment.
Previous experience with isolation and measurement of compounds and/or nucleic acids from wastewater samples.
1+ year of experience working with droplet digital PCR.
Familiarity with the magnetic manipulation of nucleic acids and liquid-handling automation technologies.
