Job Description
This position works with R&D, Stability, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to perform R&D development activities and laboratory testing to support the R&D Laboratory Systems program. The R&D Lab Technician is responsible for testing, analyzing data, drafting protocols and reports, and tracking work activities. All activities must comply with GLP, UCC quality systems, and government regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, review, plan, conduct, and document laboratory testing and experiments for the verification of medical devices and processes
- Prepare test reports, test methods, data analyses, and data summaries
- Support routine visual inspections and documentation of combination product retains
- Address test non-conformances through execution of the UCC DDN process
- Produce and maintain laboratory documentation that accurately records all R&D activities
- Perform tests and experiments in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Quality System Regulations (QSR)
- Set up, safely operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and test instruments
Qualifications
- Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to organize work priorities and meet realistic completion dates
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to create, review, and coordinate test protocols and reports
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to review large amounts of data
- Proficient in personal computer use with intermediate keyboarding skills
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and databases
Education and/or Experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
- 1–2 years of laboratory experience (preferred)
- Knowledge of design control processes, quality systems, and project management (preferred)
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or templates
- Ability to write simple reports and business correspondence
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Working knowledge of statistics (preferred)
Reasoning Ability
- Good judgment and practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions
- Ability to follow applicable laws and regulations and seek guidance when needed
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, walk, talk, and hear
- Requires close vision and color vision
- May require lifting up to 25 lbs
Work Environment
- Exposure to warehouse, manufacturing, laboratory, and office environments
- Possible exposure to noise, minimal heat, and some chemical fumes
- Operates and maintains laboratory test equipment and measurement instruments
