Job Description:
Pay Range: $30.22hr – $32.88hr
- The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs high-complexity laboratory testing, analyzes specimens, and ensures accurate and timely reporting of patient results.
- This role follows all laboratory procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements while maintaining proper documentation and supporting daily laboratory operations.
Responsibilities:
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Maintain records demonstrating accurate proficiency testing.
- Analyze specimens using approved procedures.
- Review and release test results.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
- Document quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follow procedures when test systems are outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify issues affecting test performance and notify senior staff as needed.
- Document corrective actions for deviations in performance specifications.
- Follow procedures for reporting STAT or critical results.
- Answer inquiries from customers or lab personnel when applicable.
- Maintain complete testing records and overall departmental appearance.
- Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled and tracked.
- Review and train on new procedures.
- Attend department and training meetings.
- Participate in safety training and maintain familiarity with safety equipment.
- Participate in regulatory inspections when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirement/Must Have:
- Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to work across multiple systems.
- Knowledge of QC, QA, and laboratory operations.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact professionally with other departments and clients.
- ASCP certification required.
Qualification and Education:
- BS in Medical Technology preferred.
- BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Previously qualified Technologists per 42 CFR 493.1433 accepted.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide IERF credential evaluation; U.S.-educated candidates must provide original transcripts.
- National and state licensure as required.
- Eligible for national certification (ASCP or AMT).
Experience:
- 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
- Minimum 1 year required for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.
