Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, result reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
- Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved procedures per departmental SOPs.
- Review and release test results.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety regulations.
- Document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
- Follow laboratory policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify and correct issues affecting test performance or report them to a supervisor.
- Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance standards.
- Report STAT or critical results to clients following departmental procedures.
- Respond to inquiries from clients or lab personnel, as needed.
- Maintain complete and accurate records for all tests performed on-site.
- Ensure general cleanliness and organization of the department.
- Label reagents/test kits with received, expiration, and opened dates as applicable.
- Participate in training on new procedures.
- Attend departmental meetings and educational sessions as required.
- Participate in safety training and know the location/use of safety manuals and equipment.
- Assist with government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirement/Must Have:
- Strong understanding of basic laboratory testing and QA/QC principles.
- Proficient in using multiple computer systems.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to collaborate with other departments and communicate effectively with clients.
- Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Qualification And Education:
- BS in Medical Technology preferred, or
- BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or
- Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF.
- National certification (ASCP or AMT) required or eligible.
- State licensure required, where applicable.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
