Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Mixed Animal Vet, Waitomo. New Zealand. $100K–$140K DOE, plus bonuses.
If you’re the kind of vet who thrives on variety, values teamwork, and believes work should still feel like fun, this could be your perfect next move. This isn’t a corporate clinic ticking boxes. It’s an independent, close-knit team that believes vetting should be as rewarding as it is challenging, and as enjoyable as it is meaningful.
The Role.
You’ll enjoy a true mixed practice where no two days ever look quite the same. Around 80% of your work will focus on large animals, mainly dairy, with a healthy mix of sheep and beef, while the remaining 20% gives you time in the small animal clinic handling consults, surgeries, and working dog cases.
It’s real, hands-on veterinary work with the freedom to do things well, supported by colleagues who genuinely have your back.
They are ideally looking for someone confident in small animal surgery, but attitude, empathy, and enthusiasm matter just as much. Ideally, you will have 2-3 years of experience, and you’ll be welcomed, supported, and encouraged to grow here.
Why You’ll Love Working Here.
They are a small, easy-going team that takes pride in what they do without taking themselves too seriously. There’s always time for a laugh, a bit of banter, and a decent coffee before heading out on calls. Their clients are the kind of people who make the job worthwhile, friendly, genuine farmers who appreciate what we do and treat you like part of the family.
This is an environment where everyone pulls together when there’s work, and relaxes when it’s time. There’s very little “management,” just a strong team that wants to be the best they can be.
Here’s what’s on offer:
* From $100K–$140K dependent on experience,
* Five weeks’ annual leave plus 12 public holidays, days in lieu, and paid call-out bonuses around 46 days off a year.
* 1 in 5/6 rota, with generous OOH remuneration.
* Vehicle, phone, and laptop provided, plus paid memberships (VCNZ, NZVA).
* $3–$4K CPD allowance, your development matters.
Life in the Waitomo District
If you’re after scenery that genuinely stops you in your tracks, this is it. Rolling green hills, open farmland, mountain trails, and beaches within an hour’s drive.
Spend your weekends exploring the world-famous Waitomo Caves, cycling the breathtaking Timber Trail, or skiing down the snowcapped peaks of Mount Ruapehu. Enjoy the local dog trials, bull sales, and community events that make you feel like you belong. Adventure here isn’t a weekend escape; it’s a way of life.
This is a place where neighbours wave, weekends mean fresh air and freedom, and work-life balance isn’t just a phrase, it’s how people live.
So, if you want a role that keeps you smiling, surrounded by great people, in one of the most beautiful corners of New Zealand, we’d love to hear from you.
So, what’s next?
Send your CV, don’t worry if it’s not up to date. We can’t get the whole story in a job ad, so ask any questions. I’ll answer honestly, no hard sell.
Work with purpose, live with balance, and join a team that truly has your back, in this stunning part of New Zealand

£44000 – £61000/annum CPD, All fees paid for, bonus
