Occupational Therapist

Job Title: Therapist – Postural Management and Wheelchairs

Grade: Band 6

Trust: South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

Locations: Unit 7, Queens Park, Queensway, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, NE11 0QD

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Sunday 08:30 – 16:30

Pay rate: £20.88 per hour (exc WTD)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative physiotherapist to join the Gateshead wheelchair service at South Tyneside and Sunderland Hospitals. The post holder will perform specialist postural management and wheelchair assessments for individual’s using a person-centred approach and ensuring high standards of care are provided.

Role Details:

* To manage and prioritise a case load of patients with a variety of complex conditions.

* Carry out simple and complex assessments as appropriate.

* Plan and implement specialist interventions in partnership with the individual and carer and in consultation with colleagues

* To meet the postural and wheelchair needs of individuals referred and to develop, monitor and review plans to meet their needs

* To formulate and implement plans using clinical reasoning and risk assessment skills such as; Full functional assessment and analysis of the individual’s physical presentation, Advice on transfers, wheelchairs, personal care and domestic activities, Assessing patients who require more than one member of staff for transfers

* To implement highly specialist assessments in: Postural, wheelchairs and pressure care solutions, Prescribing and arranging provision of equipment, wheelchairs and accessories and educating patients and carers in their safe use, Adapting, modifying and evaluating equipment and wheelchair provision to suit individual patient needs

The Successful Candidate Will:

* Degree (UK equivalent) in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy or equivalent.

* HCPC Registered Allied Health Professional

* Effective time management skills

* Ability to set own daily priorities by organising and working flexibly to meet changing priorities

* Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team

* Postgraduate qualification and/or training in: Wheelchair systems, Special seating systems, Postural Management, or Management of chronic long-term disability

In addition to experience, all Qualified roles will be required to provide evidence of

* Relevant Qualifications

* Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
