Work Location: Fontana, CA 92337 (Fully Onsite)
Job Type : Contract w2
Pay rate : $16 -$27/hr. on w2

Business Unit: Procurement – T&D Equipment
Site: Power Delivery Services )
Schedule: Monday–Friday (32–40 hours/week)
Duration: 12+ Months

Position Overview
The Quality Control (QC) Inspector will be responsible for performing detailed visual inspections of distribution transformer units received from Howard Industries at the Southwire Fontana Warehouse. The inspector ensures that all incoming materials meet company quality standards and specifications. This position requires strong attention to detail, familiarity with inspection tools, and the ability to work efficiently in a warehouse environment.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Perform visual inspections on incoming shipments of distribution transformer units, ensuring conformity with specifications and quality standards.
  2. Inspect, test, and sample materials, parts, or assembled products to identify defects, damages, or deviations.
  3. Document and log all inspection findings accurately, including cosmetic and structural issues.
  4. Reject or quarantine products and materials that do not meet inspection standards.
  5. Communicate results and recommend corrective actions to responsible teams or supervisors.
  6. Observe production and handling processes, ensuring operational compliance with quality and safety standards.
  7. Utilize detailed inspection job aids to evaluate each transformer design and condition.

Types of Equipment Inspected

  1. Overhead (Pole Top) Transformers
  2. Single Phase Padmount Transformers
  3. 3-Phase Padmount Transformers (≤500 kVA)
  4. 3-Phase Power Padmount Transformers (&Client;750 kVA)
  5. Buried Underground Residential Distribution (BURD) / Submersible Transformers

Typical Daily Volume:

  1. Minimum of 3 trucks/day
  2. Approx. 75–100 units/day (50 overheads, 7 three-phase, 30 one-phase/BURDs)

Common Inspection Findings

  1. Air Compartment Integrity
  2. Damaged Subcomponents
  3. Damaged Tank (scratches, dents, missing paint)
  4. Door Latching Issues
  5. Incorrect Nameplate or Labeling
  6. Missing Components or Stickers
  7. Oil Leaks (component/gasket or weld-related)
  8. Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) issues
  9. Incorrect Warranty Information
  10. Internal Fault Detector (Overhead units only)

Required Qualifications

  1. Education: Associate's Degree (minimum)
  2. Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a craft, inspection, or QC-related role — preferably within the electrical power plant or construction industry.
  3. Thorough knowledge of inspection, testing, and non-destructive examination techniques.
  4. Familiarity with industrial standards, codes, and safety regulations.
  5. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and nameplates.
  6. Comfortable working onsite in a warehouse environment.
  7. Able to bend, lift, and open transformer covers and doors for inspection.
  8. Must possess a keen eye for detail and strong communication skills.
  9. Must be willing to travel locally to other Southern California locations as needed (Los Angeles/Orange County).

Desired Skills

  1. Prior quality control experience in the electrical or utility industry.
  2. Proficiency with inspection tools and documentation software.
  3. Familiarity with transformer components and labeling conventions.
