Basic Function

The Quality Control Inspector ensures that all cans produced meet established quality standards, customer specifications, and industry regulations. This role involves inspecting raw materials, monitoring production processes, conducting tests, and documenting quality issues to maintain high product consistency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Inspection & Testing
  1. Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections at various production stages (e.g., cupping, body making, trimming, washing/drying, printing, inside spraying, necking, flanging, finished can height).
  2. Conduct defect tests (e.g., buckle, cracks, dents, coating integrity, axial load) using manual gauges and pressure testers.
  3. Verify print quality, color accuracy, and labeling compliance.

 

  • Process Monitoring:
  1. Monitor production lines for adherence to quality standards (e.g., Quality Plan, ISO, customer-specific requirements).
  2. Check machinery settings (e.g., TWT, MWT, DD, TCH, FFCH) and report deviations.

 

  • Documentation & Reporting:
  1. Record inspection data, test results, and non-conformities in quality logs or digital systems.
  2. Prepare general reports for traceability and audit purposes.

 

  • Defect Management:
  1. Identify root causes of defects (e.g., material issues, machine misalignment, operator error).
  2. Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues promptly.

 

  • Compliance & Safety:
  1. Ensure compliance with food safety standards (e.g., FDA, BRC for food-grade cans).
  2. Follow safety protocols for handling materials and equipment.

 

  • Continuous Improvement:
  1. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing programs.
  2. Suggest process optimizations to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

 

 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing/quality control preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year in quality control within metal packaging, can manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in measurement tools, blueprint reading, and understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork.
  • Certifications: Quality control certifications (e.g., Six Sigma) are a plus.
