Regulatory Affairs Manager

Regulatory Affairs Manager – Full Time or Part Time
Location; West Midlands. Hybrid
Sector; Paints, Coatings, Pigments, Inks
Our Client represents the interests of the decorative paints, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks, and wallcovering manufacturers in the UK.
They are seeking an experienced Regulatory Professional to join their small regulatory team. The successful candidate will have experience of a chemical-based industry environment and ideally, knowledge of chemical and health, safety and environmental regulations. Experience of working within the coatings or ink company would be highly advantageous.
You will be required to provide comprehensive support concerning national and European legislation, and other technical, and regulatory issues.
You must be prepared to travel at times throughout the UK and Europe. Hybrid role though regular travel will be expected to their offices in West Midlands.
Responsibilities of the Regulatory Affairs Manager:
* Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge on UK & EU legislation for various topics such as: construction products regulation; health & safety; environment; VOC emissions, waste; sustainability; chemicals: REACH, classification, labelling & packaging; operations management; energy & climate change; transport; British & international standards. The actual selection would depend on the individual’s skills and interests.
* Ensure deadlines for industry responses to proposed legislative changes are met.
* Develop a detailed understanding of relevant industry sectors and markets, championing specific issues, with emphasis on the industrial coatings sector.
* Produce technical bulletins and briefing papers for the industry on a range of topics
* Develop and manage industry-wide projects
* Maintain a wide circle of contacts with government departments, member companies and other external bodies.
* To be a representative in a range of external committees including upstream and downstream trade associations, international organisations (e.g. CEPE).
* Respond to enquiries to provide accurate and informative responses
* Managing technical committees, as well as coordinating industry initiatives, and preparing documentation in support of key advocacy activities.
Profile of the Regulatory Affairs Manager:
* Scientific background (a must) in chemistry or natural sciences
* Industry work experience – experience in the paint, coatings or inks industry is a priority
* Previous experience in chemical regulation, or safety, health and environmental issues preferably within an industry or association that is related to chemical mixtures like paint or printing ink or similar
* Willing to travel for meetings
* Occasional overnight stays required to meet the needs of the business although these are limited
* Self-starter with the ability to manage projects without supervision
* Proactive, with the ability to present technical arguments clearly and with confidence to members and authorities e.g. for lobbying, and others
* Ability to interact with, listen to, and influence senior managers and company owners in the industry
* Ability to meet deadlines and follow up actions from meetings
* Organised, able to take a systematic approach to handling data
* Able to work in a small team
