Overview:

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

 

Summary:

  • Perform preliminary, in process, hidden damage, and final inspections of component repair/overhaul in a FAA certified Repair Station, utilizing structural repair manuals, component maintenance manuals and aircraft maintenance manuals, as well as other approved composite repair instructions from the manufacturer or airline customer.
  • Work closely with the Operations team in the performance of maintenance, repair, and overhauls to a variety of structural and non-structural aircraft components including nacelle assemblies and flight control surfaces.

Responsibilities:
Location: Wichita, KS

  • The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible to the Chief Inspector in determining the airworthiness of work assigned to him/her. Additional duties and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Follows the MRO's quality policies and procedures as well as duties and responsibilities found within the FAA Part 145 Repair Station / Quality Control Manual, associated quality manuals and standard operating procedures
  • Carry out aircraft component inspections that are required to maintain the component in a safe and airworthy condition in conformance to standards set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and manufacturer's maintenance manuals to include component and structural repair manuals, OEM engineering documents and airline customer requirements
  • Perform the function of receiving/shipping inspector for those parts or materials routed for use during maintenance, preventive maintenance/ alterations and repair station PCA stock and aftermarket spares
  • Record all inspection data within the work order system, reports, and inspection tags
  • Ensure that all necessary inspections/overhauls, checks, and repairs are carried out in accordance with procedures in the applicable manuals and FAA CFR’s
  • Ensure that FAA approved data is used for all repairs and rework on components
  • Ensure that part tags are properly completed, and stamping the tag with the correct disposition (i.e. serviceable or unserviceable)
  • Prepare and sign FAA Form 8130-3 and for the return to service of a completed unit
  • Communicate to the Chief Inspector or inspection Lead of any irregularities in the standard practices used, faulty equipment and poor housekeeping practices that could cause injury to personnel or make the aircraft component un-airworthy
  • Ensure that a high standard of workmanship is maintained
  • Determine the airworthiness and final acceptance of articles on which work has been performed, outside the repair station, by cert or non-certificated persons, before use on a component
  • Assists and advises others as to the proper execution of maintenance and inspection processes
  • Periodically checks and removes from inventory or shop use, consumable materials found to be beyond shelf-life limits
  • Ensures that the policies and procedures set forth within the Repair Station/Quality Control Manual and airline customer requirements are being followed
  • Contact other company organizations or customer representatives, as required to coordinate and accomplish work assignments
  • Must comply with Anti-Drug and Alcohol program requirements (FAA required random testing for safety sensitive work)
  • Employee must successfully pass initial screening to begin work in the Repair Station and pre-authorize background checks upon Company requests

Level A:

  • Able to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Use and interpret drawings, component maintenance manuals (CMM), aircraft maintenance manuals (AMM), and structural repair manuals (SRM)
  • Use shop mathematics, precision measuring instruments, specialized inspection machines, tools, and equipment necessary to accomplish work assignments
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal
  • Good computing skills
  • Maintain certifications as required
  • Able to perform Tap testing
  • Overall working knowledge of the part 145 Repair Station
  • Ability to investigate and document Root Cause analysis and Corrective action (non-disciplinary)
  • Determine and submit investigation and test statements.-Perform process and hardware audits and surveillances
  • Be able to obtain certification to return an article to service utilizing FAA Form 8130-3
  • Perform all functions associated with Level B requirements.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • 7 Yrs Experience quality inspection experience.
  • All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks.

  • This is a union-represented position.
  • DOT safety sensitive position and requires participation in a DOT drug screen and random screenings.

Preferred:

  • Airframe license and/or previously held a repairman certificate.
  • Inspection experience in a repair station environment.

Union:

This is a union-represented position.
