Job Description

Electronics & Industrial (E&I) Advanced Circuits and Packaging (ACP) is seeking a talented, eager to learn associate investigator for its advanced packaging lab and fab facility in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The Advanced Circuits and Packaging team develops new products that address technical challenges in the semiconductor packaging industry, supporting well-known, industry-leading fabricators producing world-class semiconductor devices. This role is suited for individuals with experience in lab operations and ideally in clean room environments performing synthesis, formulation, thermal analysis, coating, lamination, lithography, and material testing. The position in the R&D Development group of ACP will focus on the development, optimization and commercialization of new products in a broad range including metal plating, photoresists and dielectric materials in the semiconductor industry. Key areas of focus will include clean room & fab work, synthesis, formulation, filtration as well as analytical method development and testing.

This candidate's primary responsibilities will be to support global project teams to deliver against project goals and timelines. Technical direction will come from experienced project leaders and technical leaders within ACP, who will assist as needed with prioritization, planning, and communication of project deliverables. This role will require hands-on execution of lab and clean room processing of material formulations, including coating, cure, metrology and analysis of wafer-level and panel-level material processing. Work to formulate new materials for testing, thermal analysis and sampling will also be required. These activities will support process window development, performance optimization, integration troubleshooting, and formulation development across multiple steps of semiconductor fabrication. An ideal candidate will also have introductory organic synthesis skills to support material development.

This role will demand strong interpersonal relationships with other team members and requires good communication and analytical processing of experimental data. The successful candidate will drive evaluation and characterization aspects of critical projects and assist in data analysis and interpretation/presentation of key results, internally.

The highest levels of ethical conduct, quality science, and adherence to our culture of safety is a prerequisite for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

" Associate investigator focusing on panel and wafer-level processing techniques, comfortable with exploring advanced/non-standard methods for unique applications

" hands-on in semiconductor fab, clean room for semiconductor material processing including lithography

– demonstrate introductory organic synthesis skills to support polymer and material development.

– Adept at hands-on lab work, creative thinking, problem solving in a unique and fast-paced laboratory environment

" Assume responsibility for execution of project workflows, such as laminations, coatings, lithography and cure techniques, as well as thermal and mechanical analysis.

" Support additional prototyping and optimization development initiatives relevant to strategic goals as they arrive.

" Create, maintain, and leverage close relationships with internal analytical collaborators to drive characterization and performance data collection and analysis.

" Clearly and concisely communicate research to team members of varying technical backgrounds

" Demonstrate ability to work well on cross-functional and global teams with personnel at multiple levels, including Asia-based customers and commercial points of contact.

" Maintain appropriate focus on personal and process safety, product integrity, and environmental stewardship

" Experience with thermal and mechanical analysis tools and techniques

" Well-organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven team player

" Good written and verbal communication skills

" English fluency

Strongly preferred

" hands-on experience of lab and clean room processing of semiconductor formulations, including coating, lamination, Lithography, cure, metrology and analysis of wafer-level and panel-level material processing

– Expertise with a diverse range of analytical equipment and materials characterization

" Experience in Inspection equipment (confocal microscopes, scanning electron microscopes)

" Curiosity and excitement to learn beyond assignments, excellent problem-solving skills in a team environment

" Hands on organic or polymer synthesis experience to support polymer and materials development
