Senior Molecular Pathologist & Laboratory Director
Durham, NC

As a Senior Molecular Pathologist & Laboratory Director of Durham, NC laboratory you will serve as a professional and a leader on the medical team. In addition to contributing to clinical case review and sign-out of the lab's broad next-generation sequencing (NGS) portfolio, you will lead the launch and continued growth of a high-impact, solid-tumor minimal residual disease (MRD) assay, having end-to-end responsibility for ensuring medical quality, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence across the full test menu run in the Durham laboratory.

As the CLIA Laboratory Director, you will also provide expert oversight of all laboratory modalities, including both molecular diagnostics and flow cytometry.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and sign out high-complexity molecular cases, including NGS, PCR, and MRD, ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses, as part of our busy molecular pathology service
  • Medical leadership of MRD assay development, validation, interpretation, and integration into clinical workflows and reporting systems in the North Carolina laboratory
  • Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director for the Durham site, overseeing regulatory compliance, SOPs, personnel competency, and inspection readiness
  • Oversee quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, and improvement initiatives across molecular and hematopathology testing
  • Collaborate with supervisors, operations, and quality teams to ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant testing processes
  • Act as a clinical liaison for internal teams and external clients, supporting case resolution and strengthening physician relationships
  • Contribute to publications, presentations, and internal discussions on new technologies and diagnostic strategy
  • Mentor pathologists, technologists, and staff, promoting a collaborative, high-performance culture aligned with company values
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Molecular Pathology Services or the VP Medical Services or senior leadership in support of medical or regulatory goals

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree required; Fellowship training and Board certification in Molecular required, Hematology board certification is also required.
  • 5+ years of molecular pathology experience required, including a strong working knowledge of next generation sequencing; hematopathology experience including flow cytometry interpretation preferred
  • Board certification in Molecular Genetics Pathology through the American Board of Pathology
  • Active unrestricted Medical License to practice in the Client or willingness to apply for such licensure
  • Other state medical licensures a plus, including CA, FL, and NY
  • The applicant should either have or be willing to apply for NY state COQ for molecular diagnostics. NY state COQ for flow cytometry is also desired.
