We are currently seeking a qualified SENIOR QA Construction Inspector for a large airfield project in Austin, Texas.
Candidates must have a minimum of 7-10 years' experience working on project elements such as earthwork, subgrade, drainage features, structures, retaining walls, and asphalt and concrete paving. DOT and/or FAA experience are preferred.
Typical Job Responsibilities:
- Inspect the work in progress for conformance with contract documents
- Ability to document deficiencies and deviations from plans
- Ability to recognize problems/issues, report, and facilitate resolution
- Perform construction inspections, including but not limited to inspection of, bridge and retaining wall structures, review/approve formwork, rebar placement, finishing and curing of concrete, review/approve placement and backfill of pipe, review/approve placement of asphalt materials, verify project grades and alignments are in accordance with project plans and specifications
- Prepare daily reports and maintain an inspection diary
- Ability to maintain contract documentation and project records
- Take construction progress photos
- Verify approval of and retain material tickets, receipts, documents, etc.
- Assist in coordinating responses to RFIs and submittals
- Coordinate scheduling of material testing
- Inspect TCP and SWPPP for compliance with the plans
- Review field progress against CPM schedule and document/report variations
- Review progress payment applications and make recommendations on accuracy for pay items and ability to perform quantity computations
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- 5-10+ years' experience in transportation and/or aviation construction inspections
- Experience with DOT and/or FAA specifications and construction standards
- Proficient in the use of computers and software programs (E-mail, Word, Excel)
Other Requirements:
- Work in inclement weather (hot/cold/rain)
- Work non-standard hours/day, including some weekend and vacation work on occasion
- Must be able to pass Security Clearance.
Desired but Not Required Certifications:
- ACI Grade 1 (Must be able to obtain certification with 1-year of hire.)
- Level 1B Asphalt Specialist (Must be able to obtain certification with 1-year of hire.)
Work Environment:
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery & mechanical parts, uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to loud noise, and outside weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- The physical requirements must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Intermittent unassisted sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stooping, crawling, pushing and lifting is required. Must be able to walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time for at least eight hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 50 pounds without assistance. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights.
Other Requirements:
- Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected. Short term, out of town, assignments may be required. Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates.
- May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends.
