Job Title: UX Researcher
Location: South San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – 3 days on-site per week)
Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension or full-time conversion)
Compensation: $45.80 – $70.92/hour (W2)
Travel Requirement: Up to 25% (occasionally)
Job Summary
We are seeking a mid-level UX Research Contractor to join the Experience Design team. In this role, you will support the Experience Design Director by planning and executing user experience and customer experience research across various projects. Using Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design methods, you will analyze customer behaviors, gather insights, and present findings that guide design strategy and improve overall user experiences.
You will collaborate with CX Researchers, Business Analysts, Designers, and other stakeholders to support journey mapping, service design workshops, and customer insight discovery that drives strategic transformation. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role for a customer-first problem-solver with a passion for improving digital and physical touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative UX/CX research to uncover customer needs, behaviors, and experience gaps.
- Develop and facilitate user testing, interviews, surveys, and workshops (e.g., Design Sprints, Journey Mapping).
- Analyze and triangulate operational and behavioral data to drive data-informed design decisions.
- Present actionable insights to cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Curate and maintain a digital library of experience research assets.
- Support planning and facilitation of workshops, including setup, participant coordination, and post-event documentation.
- Collaborate with Experience Designers, Analysts, and Data Teams to create impactful visual stories and journey frameworks.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human-Centered Design, Human Factors, Psychology, HCI, Service Design, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in UX/CX research, journey mapping, or human-centered design.
- Proficiency in qualitative research, with working knowledge of quantitative and mixed-methods approaches.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, both written and verbal.
- Comfortable using tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Suite, Jira, Confluence, Adobe Analytics, or Medallia.
- Experience with journey mapping and visualization tools (e.g., Smaply, UserTesting, UserZoom).
Preferred:
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
- Experience with Content Management Systems (e.g., AEM, CQ5).
- Exposure to emerging tech (AI, AR/VR, ML) in research/design contexts.
- Familiarity with analytics and mapping tools: Visio, LucidSpark, ContentSquare, Talkwalker.
Working Environment
- Hybrid role with mandatory on-site presence in South San Francisco three days per week.
- Occasional travel may be required (up to 25%).
- Collaborative studio environment focused on patients, providers, and internal customers.
