Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician
Location: Pittsburg, PA 15220
Duration: 3 Months+
Shift: 8 am to 4:30 pm Mon – Fri
Job Summary:
Perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of senior laboratory personnel in specialties qualified by education, training, and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and report assigned analytical tests under senior personnel supervision, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality control requirements.
- Conduct moderate complexity testing with specific on-site training and oversight, as applicable.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies on specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
- Adhere to analytical schedules to ensure timely results, including STAT or critical results.
- Verify reagent/test kits for receipt dates, expiration dates, and, if applicable, opened dates.
- Perform and document quality control (QC) analysis to ensure accuracy and proper instrument function; make quality control decisions regarding assays/tests.
- Report all issues affecting test performance to supervisory personnel.
- Notify supervisory personnel of any deviations from standard testing procedures and cooperate in investigations.
- Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting to physicians.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and areas in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete required training and competency checklists.
- Adhere to all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety regulations.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE), engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
- Respond to questions from clients or lab personnel as needed.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Experience:
- Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990).
Preferred Experience:
- One (1) to three (3) years of clinical experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry objects weighing 1 to 10 pounds; occasionally 11 to 25 pounds; seldom 36 to 50 pounds; objects over 50 pounds only with assistance.
- Ability to stand and work at the bench for extended periods.
- Frequent walking and/or standing.
- Use a variety of manual and automated pipettes, instruments, and apparatuses requiring significant manual dexterity.
Knowledge:
- Basic theoretical and operational knowledge of clinical testing.
- Knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Skills:
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills for courteous and effective interaction with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Communication skills to manage telephone inquiries professionally.
- Ability to handle client information confidentially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
Education:
- Associates Degree (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications:
- ASCP Certification (Required or Preferred as applicable)
