JOB TITLE: Scale House Scale House QC Operator

LOCATION: Tajiguas Landfill

FLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Hourly

REPORTS TO: Opts Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: None

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Scale House QC Operator is responsible for weighing incoming scrap loads, operating inbound and outbound scale, and ensure loads are of the right specifications for loads and when needed covers quality control of bales. Responsible for helping in the day-to-day operations and attends to the administrative duties associated with operation of the scale(s). This position is required to screen all loads to verify the type of material and is responsible for operating the weigh scales and scale computer. Accurate record keeping and data entry is essential for the purpose of accurate billing. Assist production workers by performing multiple duties through the facility (housekeeping, quality inspecting/bale dressing, etc.).  The Scale House QC Operator is responsible for the inspection and removal of contamination by hand from bales of recycled materials (Bale Dressing), including cardboard, paper, plastics, wood and metals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspect and verify loads with drivers and ask questions as required. Operate computerize truck scale to determine the weight of each load and enter load information and driver/truck information into computer. 
  • Operate computer and accurately perform routine data entry into a computer and generate charge ticket on printer. 
  • Sort and process weight tickets at the end of each day and submit to billing. 
  • Complete daily scale/receipt reports, as assigned. 
  • Organize and file weight tickets for each load and maintain records of all incoming/outgoing loads. 
  • Maintains control of the scale house to ensure an efficient workflow of operation. 
  • Perform duties and operate safety equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Performs inspection and quality assurance of baled recycled materials according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking or other characteristics.
  • When needed maintain accurate and up-to-date bale production records and reports.
  • Follows the Lead with bale dressers in applicable procedures and techniques.
  • Operates a variety of recycling equipment and vehicles such as forklifts, hand trucks and carts.
  • Ensures care in the proper handling and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures productivity of bale dressing and cleanliness on the bale floor.
  • Move completed bales into position in the bale storage area, using three bales high as a standard height.
  • Ensures a clean work area in addition cleaning of interior and exterior areas of the facility by sweeping, raking, picking loose debris, or moving barrels and bins.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times. 
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Report any worker-public safety factors and/or equipment malfunctions.
  • Follow appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) as guideline for operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Be safety conscience and utilize the proper PPE when handling materials that can include broken glass, other sharp objects, heavy/awkward items, etc.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings.
  • Ability to adhere to work schedule.
  • Must be flexible to work early and late hours depending on work load.
  • Maintains a feeling of pride in work; strives to achieve all goals.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Ability to reach above head, handle and grab, bent and twist.
  • Ability to stand/walk for eight plus hours per day.
  • Ability to have strong attention to detail and accuracy for entering weigh tickets, bale sizing and quality of bales.
  • Ability to operate and maintain baler machinery.
  • The capability to work well with a diverse team and independently with motivation and positive energy.
  • Must be able to communicate and understand instructions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required. 
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Willingness and ability to perform manual work.
  • Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.
  • Ability enter data accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers, vendors and customers,
  • Experience: 6 months of relevant work experience

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Circumstances could be noisy and dirty. Required to put on protective outfits, like gloves, safety footwear, hardhat.

 

WORK SCHEDULE*Need to be flexible. Schedule may vary depending on weather (i.e. rain) and business needs. 

Compensation details: 19-22 Yearly Salary
