Location: Newton, NC
Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Newton, NC
Pay Rate: $30–$40/hr (based on experience)
Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or related field preferred
Description
The Process Technician II plays a critical hands-on technical role in supporting cleanroom optical ribbon and fiber optic cable manufacturing. This position provides advanced process expertise, equipment troubleshooting, and technical leadership while remaining on a non-management technical career path. The role supports stable operations, continuous improvement, and production scale-up in a fast-growing manufacturing environment.
Requirements:
• Operate, monitor, and optimize cleanroom-based optical ribbon and cable manufacturing processes
• Perform advanced setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of ribbonization, fiber handling, and bonding equipment
• Lead process start-ups, line qualifications, and product changeovers
• Troubleshoot complex quality issues including attenuation, ribbon geometry, fiber alignment, and bonding integrity
• Support preventive maintenance and equipment reliability initiatives
• Ensure adherence to cleanroom protocols, SOPs, and safety requirements
• Monitor in-line and off-line quality metrics and drive corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with ISO, Telcordia/GR, IEC, and customer specifications
• Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
• Analyze process data using SPC and manufacturing systems to improve yield, throughput, and uptime
• Support Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives
• Assist with new equipment installation, process transfers, and plant expansion efforts
• Serve as a technical mentor to Process Technicians and Operators
• Provide hands-on training and technical guidance without direct people management responsibilities
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for assigned processes or equipment
Qualifications
• 2–3+ years of experience in optical fiber, ribbon, or precision manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of cleanroom operations and contamination control
• Hands-on experience with optical fiber handling, ribbonization, and precision equipment
• Proficiency in SPC, MES, and process data analysis
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and procedures
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and mentoring skills
• Experience supporting quality systems and compliance standards
